Jill Soukup

Jill Soukup was born in Buffalo, New York. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Colorado, where she still resides. Jill’s affinity for horses as a young girl resulted in countless drawings and studies of them, which made for a strong drawing foundation. As a teen, she started a pet-portrait business, acquired jobs painting murals, and designed logos for local organizations. She graduated from Colorado State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. There, she received awards for illustration and design and worked as an illustrator and designer for the university. She initially pursued a career in graphic design while continuing to paint part time. After 11 years as a designer, she made the switch to full-time painting. McCaw, John

John McCaw is the eldest son of American expressionist Dan McCaw and brother to artist Danny McCaw. Working together as a family of artists there exists a natural alchemy. Although clearly influenced by each other, John articulates a unique vision and creativity. John has taken a path that is not limited by subject matter but is liberated by the endless tap of emotional resources. Spontaneity and instinct play a major role in the development and physicality of John’s art. Absorbing the environment, painters of the past and present, and placing no limits on his imagination, John brings to his canvases not only his sensibilities but also the relationship between inner passion and the outer expression of site, mind and body. The emphasis on strong design, simple shapes, variety of surfaces and sensitive color has enabled John to create well-balanced visually stimulating art that encourages the viewer to look for answers within themselves. Each work of art contains elements of life, bits and pieces that reveal the anatomy of our existence. Many of these pieces suggest universal themes, such as human relationships, religion, graphic symbols, modern culture and so on. These themes can be interpreted on many different levels. Whether it’s an emotional connection or a visual attraction, John endeavors to create an art that most accurately represents the purity of a unique experience. “Art is the external expression of an internal emotion.”

My goal is to create images with my paintings that beckon the observer to step closer and see the beauty and expressive use of rich, lovely color that flows throughout my work. I work with both pastels and oils.

Fueled by beauty and vibrancy, my art is an expression of my love for nature, things that bud, grow, then die…each stage rendering “new eyes” and feelings. I paint – how and what I feel and see.

Born and raised in Denver, I have been painting for nearly three decades. I am an active member of the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Society of Colorado, and the Art Students League of Denver. I have studied at The Rocky Mountain School of Art and Design as well as with many exceptional fine artists including: Quang Ho, Kang Cho, Albert Handell, Michelle Torrez, Lorenzo Chavez, Doug Dawson, Desmond O’Hagen and Kevin Weckbach.

As an art teacher for over 30 years, I regularly hold workshops – the Art of the Flower –throughout the United States. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching private lessons to individuals and small groups, and providing demonstrations to a variety of art organizations, groups, events, and galleries.

Please contact me with any questions. I would love to hear from you.
