Collecting art is a passionate and intellectually stimulating journey that involves a number of motivations ranging from the imperative of patronage to personal expression to aesthetic pleasure to lifestyle and investment. With an emphasis on the importance of patronage and its relevance to everyone regardless of financial means, this video references the lives and contributions of a few great collectors including, Mellon, Dale, Rockefeller, Bliss and Guggenheim—collectors who helped build America’s art museums. It includes 20 works of art by Michelangelo, Raphael, Cezanne, Cassatt, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Rousseau, Pollock, and Koons.
