Xeus, Vincent

About Vincent Xeus

Vincent Xeus is an award-winning artist and a leading figure in the international contemporary art scene. He creates from his personal cultural experiences in a kaleidoscopic sprawl of contemporary imagery and cultural touchstones. As a quintessential Asian American artist in the age of globalization, Xeus straddles both Eastern and Western artistic ideologies, representing their cultural distinctions, blurring boundaries, and creating a unique expression of harmony. Each element in the pictorial structure expresses multiple messages and identities. With a wide range of perspectives, Xeus’s works explore the terms and stakes of individuals in a society, highlighting a sense of belonging and responsibility for the world we share. His prodigious artistic output has earned him international acclaim, and his work is exhibited in renowned public and private collections in museums and galleries worldwide.

Xeus currently lives and creates in Manhattan and Napa Valley, California. He served as Board Director of Arts Council Napa Valley and Arts Commissioner in Napa Valley, California. The artist holds a high honors bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA with Columbia Fellow Award from Columbia University.

About Women of Kennedy Exhibition

Better Angels is a touring solo exhibition consisting of 20 large-format oil paintings, which explore the underrepresented but critical voices and international impact of leaders in the legendary American family, Rose, Ethel, Eunice, Jean, Jackie, Caroline, Rosemary and Kathleen (“Kick”) Kennedy.

The body of work takes inspiration from these women whose rejection of the cultural limitations imposed on their gender and adherence to a universal belief in human dignity has left a global impact. By referencing rarely seen historical and family photos (courtesy of the Kennedy family’s private collection), each painting will re-animate key moments to provide a candid glimpse of each
subject’s life. Whether it was Jean’s role in negotiating peace for war-torn Ireland, Ethel’s international activism for human rights, Eunice’s movement to foster acceptance and inclusion of all disabled persons, or Kick’s uncompromising determination and lust for life – all discovered and followed a bold calling. Through intellect, courage, passion, and personal sacrifices, each took action and played a critical role in establishing new cultural norms.

As Vincent Xeus blurs image over image, abstract and representational foreground and background constantly shift roles, creating spatial ambiguities that resonate as a complex juxtaposition of senses. This series of paintings presents the viewer with an intimate composition overflowing with vitality and authenticity. They raise questions about hegemonic ideals, hope to vividly remind the audience of peace, unity, and innovation brought forth by these characters to the world, and evoke the power of beauty in bridging ideological gaps and healing psychological wounds.
