Open since August 12, 1892, The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa (named after Henry Cordes Brown, an Ohio "carpenter-turned real estate entrepreneur") was designed by architect, Frank Edbrooke. Some of the striking architectural features of the hotel include the red granite and sandstone exterior, the dramatic atrium lobby, Grand Salon (now the Onyx Suite), and 8th floor Ballroom made of onyx from Mexico. Of note is the wallpaper mural created by the Zuber Company of Alsace, France, in 1834, depicting scenes from pre-revolutionary America, located in the Independence Room of the Palace Arms restaurant.
