Began her art work sitting on the floor of El Chico in Las Cruces while her mother, Juanita, worked on portraits. After graduating from the Texas Academy of Art and the University of Houston Dept of Art, Joan returned to New Mexico. Surrounded by history and a panorama of color, she reflects in her work the melting of land and culture as the true flavor of the Southwest emerges. The artist creates large hand painted Pueblo vases composed of multicolored ceramic with 22K gold detailing; signed and dated 1988.
